A Midsummer Night’s Fundraiser
Chelmsford Theatre Workshop is an amateur theatre company that has been running since 1969 and currently puts on 7-8 productions per year.
For our next production we'd planned to stage A Midsummer Night's Dream, with the final performance on Midsummer's Day itself. We learned that far from being the ones thinking that way, Compass Collective are hoping to set a new WORLD RECORD for the most simultaneous performances/table reads of the play, hoping to assemble 200 people across at least 30 productions, on the evening of Midsummer's Day (June 21st), and we're proud to say that we'll be amongst them!
As part of this we're raising funds to support Compass Collective's work helping young refugees and asylum seekers integrate into the UK. You can find out more about Compass Collective below, or the overall Midsummer Night's Fundraiser initiative here.
If you want to join us in person for this historic occasion, or any of our other performances June 17th-21st, you can book your tickets at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/chelmsford-theatre-workshop
About Refugee Week
Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts & culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Established in 1998 in the UK, this annual global festival aligns with World Refugee Day, celebrated worldwide on June 20th.
This year the theme is “Community as a Superpower”. So let’s show the superpowers of the theatre community, show solidarity with young refugees and asylum seekers and set a world record and raise money for work with young refugees and asylum seekers across the UK.
About Compass Collective
Compass Collective assists young refugees and asylum seekers to build resilience and integrate into the UK. They offer a crucial source of support and community for vulnerable young people at risk of extreme isolation. They deliver a variety of programmes to help the young people to improve communication and transferable life skills, build confidence, and move towards future opportunities in further education/training/employment. They support approximately 350 young people aged 18-26 from over 28 locations in the UK each year. The majority are at their initial stage of immigration. 70% are unaccompanied minors. Founded in 2018 and became a registered charity in 2021. They are youth led, with a thriving, dynamic Youth Board, Youth Leader opportunities, and paid Youth Ambassadors embedded into every programme. In addition, they have lived experience on both their trustee board and represented in their volunteer team.
