A Message from the Nippon Fare Family

Many of you may already know that over the weekend, severe storms caused significant water damage to our North Perth store.

Many customers have asked us whether there is a way they can help, and after much hesitation, we have decided to create this page.

Nippon Fare has proudly served the Perth community since 1990. After more than 9 months of planning, construction delays, and paying rent without being able to trade, we finally opened our doors to the North Perth community.

The support we received was beyond anything we could have imagined. In just a few short months, you helped us build a 4.9-star local business, and many customers became familiar faces that we looked forward to seeing every day.

Unfortunately, the recent storm has forced us to temporarily close while repairs are carried out.

The damage includes collapsed ceiling sections, water-damaged equipment, damaged fixtures, and extensive repair works that need to be completed before we can safely reopen.

On the night of the storm, our owner Kai remained at the store until middle of the night, desperately trying to protect equipment and stock by covering them with waterproof sheets as water continued to pour through the ceiling. One by one, equipment began to fail as water damage spread throughout the store.

Then, without warning, part of the ceiling collapsed. Thankfully, Kai had stepped away from the area moments earlier and was not injured.

Watching months of hard work being damaged in front of his eyes was heartbreaking, but we are incredibly grateful that nobody was hurt.

While we are working closely with the strata, builders and insurance process, these investigations, assessments and approvals take time. Before repairs can begin, the roof and gutter system must first be properly rectified to ensure this kind of damage does not happen again. As a result, recovery works are currently on hold while multiple inspections and assessments are being completed.

As a small family business, this has been incredibly challenging. Since the closure, our North Perth store has had no income, while wages, rent and operating expenses continue. Like many small businesses, we carried the essential insurances required to operate, but unfortunately did not have business interruption or contents insurance for an event of this scale.

For those who have asked how they can help, we have decided to humbly accept community support to assist with immediate recovery costs and help us reopen as quickly as possible.

If you would like to support us, any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to our team. As a token of our gratitude, every supporter will receive a Nippon Fare voucher that can be redeemed once North Perth is back up and running.

Alternatively, one of the best ways to help is simply by continuing to support our Subiaco store while North Perth undergoes repairs.

We have always believed that Nippon Fare is more than just a sushi shop. It is a community built through thousands of conversations, lunches, catering orders and friendships formed over food.

Thank you to everyone who has already reached out with messages of encouragement, offers of assistance and kind words. Reading your messages has kept our spirits up during an incredibly difficult week.
