John Sproat is getting a kidney transplant August 26th

Major Update August 2025:
After more than three years since the onset of John's illness, he is getting a kidney transplant on August 26th.

As the surgery date approaches, the financial toll becomes increasingly real, with significant mounting medical bills and additional expenses.

We've updated John's GoFundMe to raise funds to ease some of these burdens.

We kindly ask for your continued prayers for John's recovery, for the donor’s healing, and our family as this new journey begins.

With love and gratitude,
The Sproat Family
*********************************************************

We are the family of John Sproat III. Thank you for taking the time to visit this page and reading John’s story.

John is 50 years old, a husband and a father of a 16-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son, and he’s also our son, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend to so many.

While hospitalized in the ICU in April 2022, John was diagnosed with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease. Stage 5 means that John's kidneys have failed. Without kidneys that work, people become very sick.

The doctors have said that the ideal treatment for John is a kidney transplant, ideally from a live donor. A kidney could also come from a deceased donor, but John would have to wait 3-5 years, or even longer, for this kind of transplant. For information about being a living donor, go to this site: https://cbmclivingdonor.org/

In the meantime, John receives hemodialysis treatments. In short, John is hooked up to machines that clean the salt, toxins and water from his blood. He is treated three days a week in 4-hour sessions at DaVita Dialysis Center. This is an enormous struggle for him and his family as the treatments are very taxing - leaving him feeling poorly most of the time.

This illness's emotional and financial strain grows every day since John cannot work. Your assistance would benefit the family by alleviating the overwhelming costs of medications, medical co-pays and numerous other basic needs and expenses, including mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, eyeglasses, dental work, and automobile payments.

John has been approved for disability, but payments have not yet started, and when they do, they won’t offset the mounting medical expenses. We ask for your help to keep his family afloat during this difficult time in their lives and tender teenage years.

In the meantime, we are asking for your prayers that John is able to receive a lifesaving kidney transplant in the near future.

With Sincere Gratitude and Love,
The Sproat Family
