A memorial concert for Jim Gillis

Donation protected
Join us for "Gillis-Palooza," a memorial concert for James J. 'Jim' Gillis, in September.

Jim, a longtime reporter and columnist for The Newport Daily News, died on April 17, 2023, leaving a huge void in the lives of many.

We are hoping to raise $7,500 to help Jim's wife, Julie Bisbano, cover Jim's remaining medical expenses and to help defray the costs of the concert.

Musicians from the Newport area will perform on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, from 2 to 6 p.m. at King Park in Newport, R.I. in tribute to Jim. Among the confirmed musicians are Bob Kendall, Jimmy Winters, Chelley Knight, Leslie Grimes, Chuck Ciani and many more. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring your chair or blanket and a picnic lunch; but please, no alcohol. This is a family-friendly event.

Jim had a kidney transplant in 2020 and spent nearly 8 years on dialysis before then. He was a tireless advocate for kidney patients and organ donation.

All donations will be most appreciated -- and certainly plan to join us at King Park in September. The concert is free and open to the public.

(Concert rain date is Sept. 17.)
