A Marcus Procel y su familia

Hello, this is my little kid Marcus, he was born with some health conditions. He has a genetic syndrome called Klinefelter, a brain malformation called focal cortical dysplasia which has led him to develop refractory epilepsy. This is the hardest type and impossible to treat.

On the past April 26th, he was admitted in an emergency room with an epileptic status, in simple words, his brain could not stop having seizures. At first, doctors explained to us that he needed treatment with high doses of anticonvulsants and that he was going to be awake during the process. We knew that because we had been through it before.

However, this time something did not go as planned and my kid ended up fighting for his life in an intensive care unit in an induced coma for 9 days. We were afraid Marcus would not make it. My kid is getting better now, but a new phase of the fight has begun.

When we took our kid to the hospital, we made the decision any parent would make based on love and care, and we took our kid to a private hospital as the situation was turning to be more complicated and life-threatening.

We have a private health insurance but it is not covering any of the expenses of the hospital which makes everything more difficult.

Health workers and technology in that hospital gave me back my kid, but the cost of that is more than $35000 up to date. That is why I am here; any contribution can really make the difference in my kid’s life.

Hola, este es mi pequeño Marcus, nació con algunos problemas de salud. Tiene un síndrome genético llamado Klinefelter, una malformación cerebral llamada displasia cortical focal que le ha llevado a desarrollar epilepsia refractaria. Este es el tipo más difícil e imposible de tratar.

El pasado 26 de abril ingresó en urgencias con un estado epiléptico, en simples palabras, su cerebro no podía dejar de tener convulsiones. Al principio los médicos nos explicaron que necesitaba tratamiento con altas dosis de anticonvulsivos y que iba a estar despierto durante el proceso. Lo sabíamos porque ya habíamos pasado por eso antes.

Sin embargo, esta vez algo no salió según lo planeado y mi hijo terminó luchando por su vida en la unidad de cuidados intensivos en coma inducido durante 9 días. Teníamos miedo de que Marcus no lo lograra.

Mi hijo está mejorando ahora, pero ha comenzado una nueva fase de la lucha.

Cuando llevamos a nuestro hijo al hospital, tomamos la decisión que cualquier padre tomaría basada en el amor y el cuidado, y llevamos a nuestro hijo a un hospital privado cuando la situación se estaba volviendo más complicada y potencialmente mortal.

Tenemos un seguro médico privado pero no cubre ninguno de los gastos del hospital, lo que hace que todo sea más difícil.

Los trabajadores de la salud y la tecnología de ese hospital me devolvieron a mi hijo, pero el costo de eso es más de $35.000 al día de hoy. Por eso estoy aquí; cualquier contribución realmente puede marcar la diferencia en la vida de mi hijo.
