A Marathon in Lockdown: Age UK

Tax deductible
In the spirit of lockdown, on Friday, 17th April, to raise money for Age UK, we (Lewis Cowlishaw and Mike Jackson, both members of Scarborough College Teaching Staff) are planning to complete a marathon running around our boarding house. This route measures out at 150m and so the entire distance (42.195km) equates to 282 laps.

Age UK is a cause close to the hearts of many, with elderly relatives stuck in the confines of their own home, some with illnesses that make day to day life difficult at the best of times.

Plea from Age UK:

“With the Government’s recommendations for social distancing for people over 70, Age UK’s services have never been more in demand.

We’re working hard to ensure our vital information, advice and befriending services can continue to safely help the older people who are reaching out to us during these deeply worrying times. Calls to our advice line have increased by 55%, while calls to The Silver Line, our partner charity, have increased by 30%. We only expect this number to rise.

In communities across the UK, older people are relying on their local Age UK to provide practical support with food supplies and much more.

We’re determined to be there for older people who need our help and especially those who have no one else to turn to, but we desperately need your support.”
