A Marathon For Suicide Prevention
We grow from talking
(Suicide Prevention Awareness Month)
I think a lot of people hold in how they are truly feeling Even when asked how were doing we respond with things like "im great" and "im okay". When I think a lot of the time we feel as if were melting through the cracks of life well we maintain a smile as we go about our days.
The idea of this makes me sick, Ive never understood why our world speaks so much about the importance of authenticity yet we can't even tell each other how we feel.
So let me take my mask off and be open with all of you I have struggled with mental health issues my whole life starting at a very young age. But I was always able to keep my smile on my face and say "im great" through the years.
Eventually me holding in and hiding these feelings became heavier and heavier as the years went on, until I finally broke. As expected sending me into a spiral, ending in a failed suicide and leaving me in a wheelchair for months only to have to re teach myself how to walk. Today I am so thankful to still be alive and be able walk that I thought I might as well run.
For this reason I will be running my first Marathon this Sunday September 19th, to raise awareness for all the others out there who feel lost, stuck, unheard, and alone there is always hope and there is always help.
All love,
Ryan
