Hi, my name is Devin Cha, son of Nuo Toua Cha.
My father was born in Laos during the time when the Japanese invaded Laos. He spent his youth hunting and farming. As a teenager, he served during the Vietnam War, and was a member of a special guerrilla unit from 1968 to 1975 and held the rank of sergeant/lieutenant. He oversaw, helped rescue and retrieved American airmen’s bodies when they fell during air fights. It was this reason that many American soldiers’ bodies were able to make it home to be honored and loved by their families. He was an elder in the Methodist Church for 40+ years. The dedication and courage during those years left a permanent mark, shaping his character and instilling a deep sense of duty to protect and care for his loved ones.
After his military service, he immigrated to the United States in 1975, dedicating himself to raising his 18 children and 15 grandchildren, and creating a loving and joyful home. Although he was a widower two times, he never ceased to provide for his family.
On November 25th, 2023, at the age of 73, he had a medical emergency while driving, which required several major surgeries. He was in a critical condition throughout the surgeries, and ultimately his heart stopped during the last surgery, which led to his death.
My father was an extraordinary man, a beloved patriarch who had a lasting impact on our lives. Our family wants to return the love he has shown us by giving him a dignified farewell.
We have set up this GoFundMe page to raise funds for his funeral expenses and to provide relief during this challenging time of mourning. Your donations will help cover the funeral expenses and also ease the burden on our family members, allowing them the neccessary time and space to grieve and cherish his remarkable life. We kindly ask for your suport in preserving the memory of this remarkable soul, whose journey embodied sacrifice and devotion. We are deeply grateful for your support in honoring his life and assisting our family in this challenging time. Thank you for your compassion.
