In 2017, I set out on an adventure to look at Confederate Monuments and how they influence religious, racial, and rural connections in Southern communities. The work has had great success in the photographic world. In addition to being published in some pretty cool magazines, some of my images have been accepted to Slow Exposures 2019 and 2021. I am profoundly appreciative of all the recognition this project has received.
Here are a few sites that have highlighted the project:
The project can be seen on my website, wendyyoung
You can help me as I head out in September to photograph and shoot video across the South for my latest project, A Long and Slow Surrender . So much has happened in the realm of Confederate Monuments since I last travelled the back roads of the South before the pandemic in 2019. I can't wait to get back out on the road to capture a broader spectrum of viewpoints. All donations will go to gas, food, and lodging expenses. My departure date is September 11, 2021 and I will be gone for 2 weeks. Support for this project will further my career as a photographer and give me the means to shed light on all sides of this issue.
$10 buys me snacks for the road!
$30 buys me a tank of gas!
$60 pays for my food for 2 days!
$100 gets me a hotel room!
What do you get for your contribution? I will create a private Facebook Group consisting of all who donate where I will post photos and videos chronicling my journey. You will get first-hand info on where I'm going, what I'm thinking, or maybe what I'm having for breakfast...there will be cheese grits for sure! The Facebook Group will be where exclusive updates will be posted. I will also provide photos that can be downloaded and used as wallpaper for any of your devices or print out in 8x10 format to hang in your house! I will also be posting on Instagram (@and_wendy_young).
This is a trailer for the documentary I hope to produce at some point!
The title of this project comes from one of my favorite Kate Campbell songs, Look Away.
(If you haven't heard Kate's music, get over to her website and listen! Kate Campbell )
Thanks so much for your support for me and my photography habit!
