A little help for Haiti
Donation protected
Dear Village,
I have ancestors that hails from Jeremie, my mother's home town. Jeremie is in the south, one of the areas hardest hit by hurricane Matthew. I no longer know anyone in Jeremie, but everywhere in Haiti people are hurting and in need. I was trying to figure how to best help. I thought about doing a collection of items and enrolling my college community to help, but it is complicated with shipping and will take too long. Folks on the ground shared the best way is to send funds via Western Union.
This gofundme is going to my village not on Facebook and is a quick turn around. Whatever is collected will be sent on Monday,Oct 10th, Indigenous Peoples Day. If you are going to help it is now. Today. And i get it if its not a pay week. No worries. And you may have donated already to some Haiti fund. Thank you.
I received a text from a friend in Haiti right after Mathew hit. He said "pral gen anpil grangou" - "many people will be hungry". In my naivete I asked him what did he mean? After the hurricane, gardens, farms will be destroyed, banks closed, people will be looking for food he said. Of course! I got it.
The funds will go to buy food, bottled water, medicine, materials to rebuild. The funds will be in the hands of people on the ground, (not the Red Cross!) who will distribute and handle the needs of the desperate. Whatever you can donate will only help a few, but it will be significant, meaningful and will make a difference in someone's life.
The funds will be received by my partner, Salomon who is a community leader in Petit Goave where the funds will be distributed
It takes every raindrop to fill a bucket.
If you have any questions, suggestions call me or send me an email.
In deep gratitude.
Mesi anpil ! ( Thank you very much!)
Marie Claude
