Meet George, our sweet 16 year old miniature horse and one of the beloved residents of Windy Hill Farm Animal Sanctuary.

What began as an ordinary day quickly turned into every animal owner’s worst nightmare.

On October 6th, we noticed something wasn’t right with our little George. Normally full of personality, he suddenly wasn’t acting like himself. He was reluctant to move, had little interest in eating, and seemed uncomfortable. We immediately began monitoring him and contacted our veterinarian.

Over the next several days, George underwent examinations and treatments as we desperately tried to figure out what was making him so sick. His inflammation levels were extremely elevated, but without an obvious explanation, we were left searching for answers.

By October 9th, George’s condition had become increasingly concerning. He was experiencing episodes of fever, difficulty moving, and an alarmingly low white blood cell count. Following further examination, our veterinary team determined that George was suffering from colitis, a potentially life threatening inflammation of the colon.

The decision was made to hospitalize him immediately.

Since then, our little fighter has remained under the watchful eyes of his incredible veterinary team, receiving IV fluids, antibiotics, probiotics, pain management, and around the clock monitoring.

While we’ve had moments of encouragement, George’s journey has been anything but easy.

On October 12th, we received another heartbreaking update. Despite efforts to prevent further complications, George developed diarrhea, raising concerns that his colitis may be progressing. His veterinarians are now running additional bloodwork to evaluate his protein levels, as severe protein loss could mean he needs plasma transfusions.

For now, we’re taking everything one minute, one update, and one prayer at a time.

As a privately operated animal sanctuary, we shoulder the financial responsibility of caring for the animals who call our farm home. This year has brought one unexpected veterinary emergency after another, and George’s hospitalization has added another tremendous financial burden.

We never want finances to determine whether one of our beloved animals gets the opportunity to fight for their life.

That’s why we’re reaching out and asking for your help.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go toward George’s ongoing hospitalization, veterinary treatments, medications, bloodwork, and any additional care he may need on his road to recovery.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing his story and keeping him in your prayers means more than you could possibly know.

George may be little, but he’s already shown us just how incredibly strong he is.

Help us give our little fighter every opportunity to make it home ❤️‍

With love and gratitude,

Windy Hill Farm Animal Sanctuary
