A little help while battling with Cancer
Donation protected
A little background information on my uncle Leigh, who, quite some time ago, found himself feeling unwell but like many people, fell foul of covid regulations which prevented a face-to-face appointment with his GP.
He was instead, provided with a telephone consultation and prescribed a course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, the medication had no effect and his condition worsened. Despite this, he still had to contend with further telephone consultations which made it virtually impossible to obtain a proper diagnosis. After many, many months of pain, anxiety & distress, he was eventually permitted a face-to-face consultation at which time he was given an immediate/urgent hospital referral.
Following the hospital appointment, he received the devastating news that he was suffering from Stage 4 head & neck cancer (a particularly aggressive form of cancer) and was advised his best chance of survival, was to undergo a total glossectomy, which, including other major surgery, meant the removal of his tongue. This came as a huge blow to him and as you can imagine has been a major life-changing event, leaving a dent in his morale.
As part of his ongoing battle against this dreadful disease and in an attempt to minimise any further spread of the cancer, he needs to undergo intensive radiotherapy/chemotherapy treatments which in addition to disturbing side effects have, unfortunately, started to take their toll, sapping a great deal of his strength and energy.
This, along with his inability to work and resulting statuary sick pay, has placed additional stresses on his well-being, lack of finances being a great concern.
We've been in total awe of the grit and determination he showed in his acceptance/ approach to the grueling surgery (15hr op) & subsequent hospitalisation.
As a family, we now want to help and support Leigh as much as possible and hopefully, lighten the financial burden he now faces.
It goes without saying, no one in this terrible situation should have to deal with the additional worry of how to pay their bills.
We desperately want Leigh to concentrate on his treatment and recovery in the most stress-free way possible.
All we would ask for is love and support at this time of need and if anyone could spare a little to help with funding, it would mean the absolute world to him and us.
If you're unable to donate but would still like to help support Leigh, we would massively appreciate your sharing his 'go fund me' page with your contacts.
Thank you so much for reading Leigh's story and a huge thank you to anyone who donates, sends love/best wishes, or shares his story.
