What began as a family holiday in Spain became our worst nightmare. In June 2024, doctors discovered a rare and aggressive tumor in my baby boy, Matias. As a Romanian mother who has worked in the UK for 20 years, I suddenly found myself stranded in a foreign country, fighting to save my child with no support system
Matias should be learning new words and playing with his sister. Instead, he is battling for his life in a hospital. Despite multiple surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy, and radiation, Matias’s cancer is resistant to all standard treatments. His diagnosis — refractory mesoblastic nephroma with an extremely rare EGFR mutation — means the standard treatments have failed. Local physicians have reached the limits of what they can offer, and advanced treatment options are desperately needed.
Today, Matias’s only hope lies in connecting with leading specialists and advanced research centers. We are urgently seeking a hospital or clinical trial able to take on his case and give him a fighting chance — but every step comes with immense logistical and financial barriers.
What Your Support Will Provide
* Onboarding and intake fees for the next specialist center or clinical trial
* Travel for Matias and myself (mother & caregiver) to reach pediatric cancer centers
* Visa and legal fees for our extended medical stay
* Temporary accommodation and other urgent relocation expenses
* Additional costs as we navigate complex referrals and daily hospital life
Why Your Help Matters
Each donation brings us one step closer to a new center and possible treatment. Medical professionals: your networks and advice can help us connect with the right specialists and researchers. For everyday donors, sharing Matias’s story may be the key to reaching the experts and hearts we desperately need.
No mother should have to watch her child fade away when hope still exists. Please help us give Matias the chance every child deserves — a chance to live, to grow, to play, and to have a future.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity. Together, we give Matias the miracle he needs.
