Rugby is more than a game — it’s about community, loyalty, and standing shoulder to shoulder when things get hard. Right now, two of our teammates need us to do exactly that.

Over the past year, both Emyr Hyde and Jack Cooke have suffered serious injuries that have come with devastating personal and financial costs.

Emyr Hyde sustained a serious neck injury during training. At the time, he wasn’t yet fully registered with the club, which meant he wasn’t covered by insurance. He required major surgery, an extended stay in hospital, and heartbreakingly, it brought an end to his rugby playing days.

Jack Cooke, last season’s Player of the Year, suffered a severe back injury that required specialist injections. Halfway through treatment, he was told that, despite being fully insured, the costs would not be covered as initially promised. Soon after, he lost all feeling in his left side and required emergency surgery.

Both players have shown incredible courage throughout their recoveries, but the financial burden has been enormous.

As a new club, we simply don’t have the funds to cover these unexpected medical costs. But what we do have — in true rugby spirit — is the determination to stand up for our teammates.

To raise funds for Emyr and Jack, our Founder and Club President, Rick Hibbert, and Founder & Treasurer, Jack Grounds, will take on an incredible challenge: cycling 1,400 km from Zurich to Barcelona. They’ll be supported on the road by our third founder, Thijs Kramer, driving the support car.

This ride represents more than just distance — it’s a symbol of unity, loyalty, and the bond that makes Barcelona Lions Rugby Club so special.

All funds raised will go directly towards helping Emyr and Jack with their medical costs and recovery.
