A Lifetime of Service — Now He Needs Our Help

Last fall, our coworker, friend, and mentor Ethan Camden was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) — a life-altering diagnosis that has brought ongoing medical appointments, treatment side effects, and extreme fatigue into his daily life.

Despite his determination to keep working and providing for his family, the reality of living with CML has meant frequent doctor visits, sick days, and physical exhaustion. As a result, he has exhausted his paid time off, and managing day-to-day expenses has become increasingly difficult.

This is especially challenging because he is not only fighting cancer, he is also caring for his wife and children. Ethan is doing everything he can to remain present and supportive for them during the most demanding and dangerous period of CML therapy. When the side effects of chemotherapy become overwhelming, he has often said, “I’m glad I’m the one who has cancer and not my wife or kids, because I can deal with being sick but not if it were them.”

Those who know him recognize him instantly: the bald medic with tattoos who might look tough at first glance, but is at heart, a softie with a deep well of compassion. Ethan is the one who quietly checks in on coworkers, shows up when it matters, and carries the weight for others without seeking recognition. Beyond his work, he’s also known for coaching and encouraging coworkers in strength training, always motivating others to take care of their bodies and believe in themselves. Whether on shift, in the gym, or during life’s hardest moments, he leads with kindness, empathy, and steadiness.

What makes this even more meaningful is his long history of service to others.
• He served our country for 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps 2D Battalion 5th Marines
• He spent 5 years serving the EMS and healthcare community as a chaplain
• He currently works as a paramedic at Montgomery County Hospital District, after a total of 13 years of service in EMS. During this time, he has trained and mentored countless medics and premed students, teaching us to be better providers.

Now, he is the one in need of support. Our goal for this fundraiser is $15,000. These funds will help him and his family cover everyday living expenses, medical deductibles, and any extra costs associated with cancer treatment while he is unable to work. Even though CML is very treatable and winnable, the initial therapy is intense and can be overwhelming. Our combined support will allow him to focus on his health and family without financial stress.

Any contribution, no matter the size, means more than words can express. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page is equally appreciated. Thank you for supporting someone who has spent his life supporting others.
