A Lifeline on Wheels for Our Disabled Friend
Donation protected
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. My mechanic has let me know that my car of many years will not pass inspection due to rust, end of February 2025. I was in this position 7 years ago. I was deeply blessed by people, known to me and not, who generously gave and supported me, and made getting a car an actuality. Even so, it’s very scary finding myself here again at 59.
Since my mechanic’s news, I have been searching for grants or scholarships to help me in Massachusetts or federally. The good news is that there are quite a few programs in MA to help disabled people get a car. However, they are only for those who are able to work, and need a car to do so. Unfortunately I am disabled, and not able to work.
At 42 I was struck disabled when I got hit with a rare neurological disorder after dislocating and breaking my shoulder. Within a year I lost the ability to work, my body as I knew it, my home and life savings. All were gone. It has been a long journey. I rely on social security disability insurance, and am unable to work due to this neurological disorder and other rare diseases.
Bus service where I can afford to live is non existent. Without a car, I can’t run to the pharmacy, to get food, go to the doctor, the library or the ER, or even to visit friends.
I need to say here that I am also aware of how great the need is in our country. My heart breaks watching old friends affected by the fires in California. So many of us are hurting in this economy. I don’t mean to be disrespectful in asking for your help. I would not be here, asking for your help if I hadn’t run out of options.
I’ve researched the current prices, and found that for me to have a safe, reliable, used car that is good on gas, and has little rust, I would need to spend $10,000. If anyone is in a position to donate, I would greatly appreciate it. If you’re not able, I’d be very grateful if you could pass this on to others. To all of you, thank you for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate it.
Take care,
