Hi, my name is Ruth, a lover of the arts from the U.S., and I am organizing this fundraiser for my friends in Gaza.

Here is their message to you:

We are a group of 5 young artists from Gaza who are seeking your help to relocate, along with our families, so we can survive and keep our artistic dreams alive.

Amidst the fires of war, surrounded by darkness, bombardment, and the smell of gunpowder, we are appealing for your help. Since losing our homes, we have endured media blackouts, destruction, bombings, death, epidemics, power outages, lack of drinkable water and food, medicine shortages, and are now sleeping in tents under bombardment in the winter cold and rain. There are no longer any safe shelters here. The city we dreamt of making better is now ashes reeking of blood and corpses.

We are:

Shahd Alshamali, a visual artist and writer with a degree in Law and Human Rights. She believes in justice and the power of words and images to bring change, even after losing 25 members of her family in addition to her house and all of her belongings.

Ahmed Alshamali, Shahd’s younger brother, who formed the band VENT with his friends in order to share their message: "We exist, and we dream." All of their songs were erased when their local recording studio was bombed.

Ahmed AbuNada, Shahd’s artistic collaborator, a classically trained professional painter who has participated in many art exhibits. He narrowly escaped death when his home was bombed and lost his precious paintings in the destruction.

Omar Shalayel, a professional digital artist who also collaborates with Shahd. He worked in the visual art field for years, and drew the portraits of all 5 artists for this campaign. Not only did he survive a fierce bombardment on his neighborhood, he is also currently battling cancer.

Aya Shalayel, Omar's younger sister, a talented musician studying at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music who dreams of performing internationally. She lost her precious piano when her home was destroyed.

Our lives in Gaza were not easy even before the war, but now we have lost many family members and loved ones, our homes, our universities, our workplaces, and the studio we had created to produce short films. We had carefully kitted it out with the best equipment we could afford and spent months planning how to convey our ideas and explore arts, literature, and cultural production, but now it is gone.

We and our three families have been displaced three times already and are desperately seeking safety. There is no safe place in Gaza. We can no longer live here, and without your help, we cannot escape. Leaving Gaza is our only hope for survival.

نحن مجموعة من 5 فنانين يافعين من غزة، نبحث عن مساعدتكم لمغادرة غزة مع عائلاتنا إلى مكان آمن، لكي نستمر في البقاء و نتمكن من تحقيق أحلامنا الفنية و الحياة التي لطالما حلمنا بها.

نكتب هذه الرسالة من تحت نيران الحرب الى العالم، التي هي الضوء الوحيد في حياتنا الآن، محوطين بالعتمة و القصف و البارود كيفما ادرنا وجوهنا، نمد الأيدي جداولاً و أنهاراً للوصول إليكم. بعد فقداننا كل شيء، منازلنا، أعمالنا، أفراد عائلاتنا و أصدقائنا، و عيشنا تحت الحظر الإعلامي، و الدمار، و القصف، و القتل، و الأوبئة، وانقطاع التيار الكهربائي، و شح مياه الشرب و الطعام و الأدوية، و النوم في الخيام تحت البرد و المطر. هذا ما نعيشه منذ أن تم تهجيرنا قسراً من شمال قطاع غزة إلى جنوبه و تدميره بالكامل.لا مكان آمن هنا، و المدينة التي حلمنا بجعلها أفضل يوماً، أصبحت الآن رمادًا ينبعث منه رائحة الدماء و الجثث.

نحن:

شهد، فنانة بصرية و كاتبة، خريجة كلية القانون و حقوق الإنسان، نزحت شهد قسراً و عائلتها ٤ مرات منذ بدء العدوان على غزة، و فقدت خلاله ٢٦ فردًا من عائلتها، بالإضافة إلى فقدان منزلها و كل ممتلكاتها.

أحمد، الشقيق الأصغر لشهد، الذي كان قد شكل فرقة موسيقية تحمل اسم "VENT" مع أصدقائه لنقل رسالتهم: "نحن موجودون، و نحلم." حتى تم محو كل أغانيهم عندما تعرض استوديو التسجيل المحلي الخاص بهم للقصف و التدمير.

أحمد أبو ندا، فنان بصري محترف، شارك في العديد من المعارض الفنية. و كان قد نجا بأعجوبة من الموت عندما تم قصف منزله و فقد جميع لوحاته الثمينة في الدمار.

عمر، فنان رقمي محترف، عمل في مجال الرسم الرقمي لسنوات، نجا بأعجوبة من قصف عنيف حوّل حيه السكني إلى مقبرة جماعية، و هو يحارب الآن مرض السرطان.

آية، الأخت الصغرى لعمر، موسيقية موهوبة تدرس في "المعهد الوطني للموسيقى إدوارد سعيد" وتحلم بالأداء على المستوى الدولي. فقدت البيانو الثمين خاصتها عندما تم تدمير منزلها بالكامل.

لم تكن حياتنا في غزة سهلة حتى قبل الحرب، ولكننا الآن فقدنا منازلنا، جامعاتنا، أماكن عملنا، و الاستوديو الذي قمنا بإنشائه لإنتاج أفلام قصيرة. حيث كنا قد قمنا بتجهيزه بأفضل المعدات و قضينا شهورًا طوال في تخطيط ما سنقوم بانتاجه, من تمرير لأفكارنا و شكل حياتنا و مواضيع تتعلق بالفنون و الأدب و القضايا الثقافية.

محزن كيف حلمنا و خططنا لحياتنا لوقت طويل، و في لمح البصر أصبحنا على قيد الحياة بمحض صدفة، حيث لا نستطيع العيش في غزة و لا نستطيع مغادرتها!

لقد انتقلنا و عائلاتنا قسراً مرات عدة، هرباً من الموت منذ يوم ٧ اكتوبر، بداية العدوان، و مغادرة غزة هو سبيل نجاتنا الوحيد.

سيتم استخدام التبرعات ل:

* تغطية تكاليف السفر و الانتقال من غزة إلى مكان آمن في الخارج لتجنب التعرض للقتل في أي لحظة.

* توفير سكن مؤقت لثلاث عائلات.

* تلبية احتياجاتنا الأساسية لفترة قصيرة حتى نتمكن من كسب الدخل مرة أخرى.

* السماح لعمر، الذي هو مريض بالسرطان، بإجراء فحص ضروري و متابعة علاجه.

* تغطية رسوم GoFundMe: (٢،٩% بالإضافة إلى ٠،٣٠ دولار إضافي لكل تبرع) ورسوم التحويل البنكي: ٥% من التبرعات.
