A lifeline for the Georgina Smith Family

There are people that come into your life that lift your spirit like no other, no matter the circumstances. Many of you have heard me describe it as, “Anyone’s day got better if they just shared 5 minutes with this person or even a passing hello with a smile.”  Gina was one of those people. She gave love to everyone willingly and intently. She shared her beaming pride in her family with open arms. Carlos, her loving husband, and her three boys, Diego, Coco and Sergio are strong, confident and loving. They get that from Gina.

On February 14th, Gina was rushed to the Walnut Creek Kaiser Hospital emergency room in an ambulance from her home in Pleasant Hill. She had fainted and wasn’t feeling well prior. She suffered from a double brain aneurysm. From there, she was transported in another ambulance to Kaiser Redwood City so she could receive optimal care in their neurological unit. She continued to have brain swelling and it was difficult to stop the bleeding. Gina has been in the hospital for close to one month.

As much as doctors tried to bring Gina back to us, God is pulling her stronger. Tomorrow, Carlos and the boys will let her rest with God, knowing in their hearts she has made and would want this choice.  We are all so saddened and stunned by what had happened to our sweet Gina. She did not have any symptoms prior to the aneurysms and subsequent strokes. If you know Gina, the woman never slowed down and was ALWAYS there if someone needed her.

This request to help Gina and her family is very different and more difficult than any other as it is near and very dear to our hearts.  Gina has become one of our close family members. She has helped raise our 4 kids for the past 15 years. We have recommended her to several other families who also felt the love of Gina helping raise their kids. If you know us, you’ve most likely met Gina or perhaps she was making your child a snack, doing an art project with them or driving your child back and forth with ours.

Carlos, Gina’s husband of 40 years (as of March 8th), and their sons along with their spouses need our help to lay their mother to rest and transition in their lives. They work extremely hard and have given all of their energy and resources to others. They always have, its in their family DNA. We hope that you can please help us give back to them in this sad time of need. Nothing is too small. If anything, remember that life is a gift and don’t forget to hug people tight and tell them you love them.

Your support will go towards paying medical bills, funeral services and towards healing for the family. Carlos was given leave from his employer for two months, but as unpaid. Her family stood by her the entire time and many of them were not paid as well. This will also go towards every day expenses and the cost of living for the past month and hopefully to help them during the families transition.

We can’t thank you enough.
