A LIFE TAKEN TOO SOON, OUR KOLU BOY

Aloha everyone, I am sure you may be wondering why my name looks familiar. On April 21, 2024, I lost my husband, ALVIN GODFREY CASTRO JR. due to having two cardiac arrests At Queens Punchbowl in O’ahu. It has been a hard two months trying find a new normal with trying to find a place myself and my kids. And preparing for his Celebration Of Life. To making sure of kids are doing okay as well as myself.
It all changed on June 28th, 2024. That phone call at 7 something in the morning would turn our lives upside down yet again. The conversation that will be forever embedded in my head to the best of what I remember:
Officer: Hello, may I speak to Kristen Castro
Me: Speaking
Officer: This is ….., there has been an accident, do you have a son that works by Puaanahulu at the golf course?
Me: Yes
Officer: Does your son drive a Acura?
Me: Yes
Officer: Can you please come to the ER?
Me: I’ll be right there ( Panicking kicking in)
Reaching to the ER, thinking maybe it’s my son and they need to send him to Honolulu. Trying to stay calm. When I get in the officer says there has been an accident, and he didn’t make it. Can we have you identify him?. To have my heart drop, I said may I wait for all my kids to come so we can all go in. Sure he said. It was just to buy more time for what I may be facing walking in that room. While waiting I notice brown boots and tell the officer while crying. I am 99.9 percent sure that is my son. He says I saw you glance at the boots. When all my kids are there, we go in. Also my son’s girlfriend and her mom came. All of our hearts broke, I confirmed it was indeed my son, ALVIN GODFREY CASTRO III aka “ KOLU BOY” reached out to Kahu Billy Mitchell and he came with another, Kahu Schutte. And another Aunty. I wanted to have them to pray with us over my son and all of us. We were able to be with him until they picked him up to take him to Kona to the morgue because of the ongoing investigation of this TRAGIC car accident that took my son’s life.
From asking questions, my son was just trying to go to work. He was only two minutes away from work. And I do pray the other person to recover and get better. We will go from there. She was going to Kona and turned left on a solid line to go to an open area to pull on the side. She did that when my son was passing by to head to work. He appeared to try and avoid her, but she head on collision with him right before 5am. My poor baby boy I can’t imagine what he was feeling in those moments. A angel on earth stayed with my son to comfort him until the ambulance and police arrived. It was not easy to get him out as he was pinned in his car. He was taken to QUEENS ER in Waimea. Not knowing what was happening early in the morning. They tried to save him, he was pronounced dead at 6:25am. By the time they were able to find who to contact and I got there he was passed away for about an hour. That broke my heart even more because he was alone. I wish I could have been by his side. I would have intercepted that accident so that he could be here today. I would have took his place in a heartbeat.
Kolu boy was truly a special young adult, he was Alvin and I’s first baby boy together. He knew how to make anyone comfortable. He was so fun loving and kind hearted and loving. Kolu and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby in October. I am having a granddaughter. And she won’t have her dad here physically because of another person’s actions. He was so excited to become a DAD. Such a handsome young man. We are so proud of what he became. You would have loved him. He is truly missed by so many and so many are heartbroken by his passing. I love you my son, I am sure Dad was there in Heaven waiting for you.
With this all being said. I am truly thankful for all of you with all my heart. If you can help or even if you can send prayers. We will be using this for helping with now a:
