Please Help Us Help Our Mom
When Robin Kassis, my mom of my three siblings and I, found out that she has triple negative breast cancer we were all left in shock. What does this mean for our mom? How will this affect our family? What is triple negative breast cancer? What do I do?
I felt helpless, desperately wanting to do something to help my mom during this time of devastating news. However, I have been away at school and haven't been able to see my mom since she has received her diagnoses three months ago.
Triple negative breast cancer is an aggressive form of this disease. Unlike other types of breast cancer where estrogen, progesterone, or human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 are present, triple negative breast cancer comes back negative in all these areas.
Many treatments aim to block one or more of the three receptors. When results for all three are negative, hormone-based medications are not an effective option. Instead, a doctor will recommend other treatments.
However, there are fewer treatment options for triple-negative breast cancer, and it is more likely to spread and recur than other types of the disease.
My mom, Robin, is a fighter by nature and has fought through this initial blow surprisingly well with God's grace. We researched alternative aggressive treatments that have huge success rates of curing cancers.
We have been working very hard to pull all of our resources together to start treatment. However, we are in need of funds to help with all aspects of this life changing endeavor.
The most important thing is assuring that she's putting the right things in her body and able to get the right treatments and machinery in our home to assist healing.
My mom is a child of God. I am confident that she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her. I am confident that this is her temporary home and that she will spend eternity with the Lord no matter what happens. But if she were to die from this aggressive form of cancer, I could not live knowing that there was a treatment out there that would have given us more time our mom. I could not live wondering if we could have had more Christmas's together, more graduations together, more time for her to see her four kids get married, to know her grandchildren, and to spend a full lifetime with her family.
My mom is the strongest woman I know, but my 3 siblings and I don't want this diagnoses and all that comes with it to take everything out of her.
Those who know my mom know that she is a hardworking person, dedicated and a giver. She has been serving our community since 2013, working tirelessly to give back to our town in so many ways including Pet Palooza, holiday events, food drives and more. She takes her time to go out of her way to connect with the community members that she works with. Not only that but my mom raised 4 successful children all alone.
As much as I have been reluctant to ask for help, we can’t do this alone. We appreciate anything you are able and willing to donate to help fill this financial gap. Please give back to a women who has given so much to her community often staying long hours at work to give 110% back to her community everyday.
I am making this go fund me, to help support my mom no matter how many miles away I am. I want her to know that through the love and support of her family and community she can fight this.
I recognize it’s a hard season to give with Christmas around the corner, but I hope generosity will save my mom's life.
Thank you for journeying alongside my mom during this especially difficult time.
