This fundraiser is to assist with funeral and medical expenses. Our dear family member, Ed "Vaughn" Pendleton passed away on the early morning of Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019 at the age of 58 years old. “Vaughn” as his family affectionately called him was born on October 9, 1960 in Harlem, New York, NY. Growing up in Harlem as a child he was very fond of collecting comic books and playing football.
He attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA where he played football his first year but then shifted his focus to academics. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh in Journalism and Political Science. He moved back to the New York City after college and worked at CBS in their news division where he put his journalism degree to good use. After a few years at CBS he attended law school at Howard University School of Law where he earned his JD.
He dedicated his life to legal services helping others. He was often called upon by friends and family to help them with their legal issues regardless of their financial abilities. He started his legal career at the law firm of O’Donnell Schwartz Glanstein & Rosen where he rose to Senior Associate. He worked on labor and employment law issues representing numerous labor unions including the Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union, New York Postal Workers, United Probation Officers and the Port Authority Police Sergeants/Lieutenant Association.
His next major role was as General Counsel of the Local 813 International Brotherhood of the Teamsters where he managed the legal, HR, finances and operations of this union. He represented and advocated on behalf of this union’s members to obtain the highest wages and the most comprehensive health benefits package in the country for its members who worked in the private sanitation, funeral industry, recycling station employees, warehousemen, livery and automobile rentals in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Most recently he lived in Teaneck, New Jersey near his parents and the final few years of his life he spent a great deal of time with them which they will always cherish.
He is survived by his parents Bertha and Edmond Pendleton, his brother Jamal Pendleton and sister Lorine Pendleton.
As per Vaughn’s wishes, a small service in honor of his life will be held on Tuesday, February 12 in Union, New Jersey. A larger memorial service is being planned by his family and will take place in the next few weeks.
