A Life Forever Changed-Help Binisha Walk Again सहयोग आव्हान

आदरणीय क्यानाडा निवासी नेपाली समुदाय नमस्कार,

मेरो नाम बिनिशा कोइराला हो। नेपालबाट क्यानडा २०२४ को जनवरी २ मा अध्ययनको सिलशीलामा आएकी थिएँ। म Niagara College मा Computer Programming डिप्लोमा अध्ययन गर्दैछु।

फेब्रुअरी 18, 2024 को दिन म आफ्नो खर्च जुटाउन Uber delivery गरिरहेकी थिएँ। सोही क्रममा, म एक भयानक दुर्घटनामा परेँ—पहिले एक गाडीले हानेर ढलें, अनि अर्को गाडीले किच्दा गम्भीर चोटपटक लाग्यो।

बेहोस अवस्थामा मलाई St. Michael’s Hospital लगिएको रहेछ। १८ दिनपछि होश आउँदा थाहा भयो कि मेरो दुवै खुट्टा र बायाँ हातको शल्यक्रिया (surgery) गरिएको रहेछ, स्टिल राखिएको रहेछ, र अत्यधिक रक्तश्रावका कारण कलेजोको २५% भाग काटेर निकालिएको रहेछ।

मैले पहिलो महिना St. Michael’s Hospital र त्यसपछि करिब एक महिना Scarborough General Hospital मा बिताएँ। करिब दुई महिना अस्पताल बसाइपछि अप्रिल ११ मा डिस्चार्ज भएकी हुँ।

हाल मेरो शरीरका जम्मा १८ वटा चोटपटकको उपचार भइरहेका छन् जसमा मुख्यत: खुट्टा, हात, किउँ, मेरुदण्ड, कपालको भाग र नितम्बमा गम्भीर चोटपटक लागेको थियो ।विगत १८ हप्ता देखि मेरो घर र अस्पतालको बेडमै जीवनयापन चलिरहेको छ। मेरो हिप डिस्लोकेट भएको थियो, जसले गर्दा उठ्न-बस्न, हिँडडुल गर्न असम्भव भएको थियो। अहिले शल्यक्रियापछि पुन: स्वास्थ्यलाभको क्रममा छु।

गत ८, २०२५ मा मेरो बायाँ घुँडाको पनि शल्यक्रिया भएको थियो। हाल म ह्वीलचेयर र वाकरको सहयोगमा जीवन चलाइरहेकी छु।ठुलो सपना लिएर आएको म जस्ती विद्यार्थीका लागि यो घटना एक ठूलो बज्रपात साबित भएको छ।

सुरुमा गाडीको इन्स्योरेन्सले केही खर्च बेहोरे पनि हाल विभिन्न कानुनी प्रक्रिया र जटिलताका कारण थप रकम उपलब्ध गराउन अस्वीकार गर्दै आएको छ। मेरो हेरचाहका लागि नेपालबाट मेरो दाइ पढाइ छोडेर आउनु भएको छ। हामीले हप्ताको जम्मा १८५ डलरमा जीवनयापन गर्नुपरेको छ।

जुलाई १ देखि मेरो चोटलाई ‘catastrophic injury’ भनेर निर्णय नभएसम्म इन्स्योरेन्सले सम्पूर्ण भुक्तानी रोक्ने निर्णय लिएको छ। हालसम्म मेरो मुद्दा हेरेको वकिलले व्यक्तिगत स्रोत (private fund) जुटाइदिएकोले त्यसकै भरमा बाँचेकी छु र उपचार अगाडि बढाइरहेकी छु।

म हिँडडुल गर्न सक्दिन, आफ्ना दैनिक कामकाज गर्न सक्दिन, तर सामान्य जीवनमा फर्कन म निरन्तर संघर्षरत छु।

यस्तो गम्भीर अवस्थामा तपाईंको सहयोग मेरो लागि जीवनदान बराबर हुनेछ। कृपया मलाई आफ्नी छोरी वा बहिनी ठानी सहयोग गरिदिनुहोला।

Namaskar!

My name is Binisha Koirala. I arrived in Canada on January 2, 2024, from Nepal to pursue my studies. I am currently enrolled in the Computer Programming diploma program at Niagara College.

On February 18, 2024, while working as an Uber delivery driver to support myself, I was involved in a devastating accident. I was first hit by one vehicle and then run over by another, resulting in severe injuries.

I was unconscious and taken to St. Michael’s Hospital. When I regained consciousness 18 days later, I learned that I had undergone multiple surgeries—both my legs and my left arm were operated on and supported with metal rods, and 25% of my liver had to be removed due to excessive bleeding.

I spent the first month at St. Michael’s Hospital, followed by nearly another month at Scarborough General Hospital. After almost two months in the hospital, I was discharged on April 11.

Currently, I am undergoing treatment for 18 injuries, primarily in my legs, arms, shoulders, spine, scalp, and hips. For the past 18 weeks, I’ve been confined to a bed—either at home or in the hospital. My hip was dislocated, making it impossible to sit, stand, or walk. I am now in the recovery phase following multiple surgeries.

Most recently, I underwent another surgery on my left knee on August 8, 2025. I now rely on a wheelchair and a walker to move around. For a student who came to this country with big dreams, this incident has been nothing short of a catastrophe.

Although the vehicle insurance initially covered some expenses, ongoing legal challenges and procedural delays have led to a refusal to cover further costs. My brother had to leave his studies in Nepal to care for me, and we are trying to survive on just $185 a week.

Beginning July 1, unless my injuries are officially categorized as a "catastrophic injury," the insurance company has decided to suspend all payments. So far, I have been able to continue treatment only through private funding secured by my lawyer.

I am unable to walk or perform daily tasks—but I remain determined to recover and return to a normal life.
