A Library for the Galapagos and the World!

Tax deductible

The International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA) and the Galapagos Guides Association (AGIPA) are proud to present this fundraiser to provide critical funding for the community library in the town of Puerto Ayora on the island of Santa Cruz.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $15,000 from donors. If we are successful in reaching our $15,000 goal, IGTOA will provide another $5,000 in matching funds!

Why you should join us in supporting this project.
In many communities, public libraries are the only place where any person, regardless of education or skill level, can have free access to both general and specialized knowledge, including conservation-related information for citizens, guides, and citizen scientists.

Public libraries support long-life education and provide tools and training to students of all ages. They also create a space for cultural activities, conferences, workshops, theatre performances, and much more. Many children have their first contact with various types of cultural activities at their local public libraries.

A public library is a must everywhere, but it is a must in a community like Puerto Ayora. With roughly 20,000 inhabitants, 11 schools with 7,500 students, and 450 teachers, the community is notoriously lacking in cultural activities and reliable internet access.  The community library on Santa Cruz has been a safe space throughout the Covid pandemic and welcomed many new users. The library partners with other grass movements collective movements to support many facets of community building.  To learn more about recent activities, events and other happenings at the library, please visit their Facebook page here .

By supporting the library on Santa Cruz, you will be supporting a vital cultural and educational resource that provides students and community members of all ages with lifelong learning opportunities, access to cultural activities and the internet,  and the tools and information they need to become excellent stewards of their precious natural heritage.
