Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read Cathy's story. My name is Lauren. I first met Cathy and Rachel as a volunteer during Rachel’s initial hospice stay in Denton. From the very first meeting, I knew we’d be lifelong friends. They truly changed my life for the better with the warmth, love, and sparkle they brought into the world.
For those who haven’t had the chance to meet Cathy and Rachel, here’s a bit of their story. Cathy was Rachel's full-time caregiver for the past decade. Rachel had CHARGE Syndrome and was DeafBlind, cognitively disabled, and medically complex, requiring 24-hour care. Cathy went above and beyond to give Rachel the fullest life possible. She fiercely advocated for Rachel to participate in every opportunity that let her sparkle, shine, and be the rockstar she was. Cathy was Rachel's superhero through all 29 years of her life.
Rachel passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024. Tragically, this also meant Cathy lost her full-time job on the same day.
Just two weeks after Rachel's passing, Cathy suffered a severe shoulder injury requiring surgery. While the surgery was successful, complications arose that prolonged her recovery, adding to an already overwhelming situation. She also faced unexpected emergency dental care and car repairs.
Despite everything, as soon as she felt physically able—though emotionally it was far too soon—Cathy sought stability and accepted a role as an Activity Coordinator at an Assisted Living and Memory Care Community. However, the debts from Rachel’s care, Cathy’s medical challenges, and four months without income continue to weigh heavily on her.
Now is the time for us to come together as Team Cathy. This fundraiser is dedicated to easing Cathy’s financial burdens, enabling her to focus on healing—grieving her precious daughter and building a life filled with joy and purpose.
Let’s show Cathy the same strength, compassion, and love she has always shared with us. Together, we can lift her up.
Join Team Cathy: A Call to Care.
The funds raised here will be used to pay off medical debt, credit card debt, and other expenses Cathy has accumulated during these challenging times.
