My name is Mai, born and raised in Australia! I am a WAAPA  student at my final step to graduate and get my Bachelors in Live Productions; Lighting.  My final step is to organise a secondment (unpaid work experience) and my first choice of secondment has responded with a YES!

THE OPPORTUNITY
Tuacahn Centre for the Arts is located in the desert canyons of Utah USA. Tuacahn Centre for the Arts for 2 months (this JUNE & JULY) where I will be working in several productions under the staff! Tuacahn is known for it's uniquely remarkable amphitheatre that is built in the CANYONS. Every musical must have custom made sets for its enormous 24meters wide 12meter deep stage. Behind the stage rocks have lighting, sound, pyrotechnical and water effects installation. I will be assisting the Master Electrician in getting much hands on experience with design in a Broadway- style production. One of the shows I will be in the production of is THE SOUND OF MUSIC, while also being able to experience the backstage frenzy of THE LITTLE MERMAID and DISNEY'S WHEN YOU WISH nightly shows!







I have bought my ticket to America and sealed the deal! My savings are towards paying rent at home and so I humbly ask for help from the generosity and kindness of people to go on this journey to America!

THE EXPENSE
The money I hope to raise with the help of your generosity is $7000 AUD/ $5000 USD. This is to cover my living expenses for the 2 months in Ivins, Utah USA.

1. $1200 USD - Accommodation for 2 months
2. $1000 USD - Transport; car rental, taxi and bus is pricy to get to Tuacahn everyday. 
3. $1000 USD - Flight back to Australia 
4. $1000 USD - Food, phone plan and all other expenses 
5. $500 USD - Safety money for emergency

WHY IN THE WORLD DID YOU CHOOSE THIS?
WHY NOT AN OPPORTUNITY AT HOME?!

I chose a narrow road with high expense and sacrifice because I believe dreams can come true. 

Tuacahn captivated me for it's incredible story ; a man called Douglas C. Stewart woke up with a dream of an amphitheatre built within the Canyons of Utah. He searched the canyons for months until he found his vision of an outdoor theatre. With the help of many people, his dream became a reality. This organisation has expanded with Broadway actors, greater production value and their own performing arts high school! They are forward in bringing stories of hope, creativity and inspiration to the community. The establishment that was birthed from a dream is now bringing over $80 million dollars to the state per year! I know I will learn many things from Tuacahn beyond the technical skills.

On October 2018, I came across the Tuacahn's promo video of Prince of Egypt the Musical and from that point on it became a dream to fly to America. When the YES came it made sense to go for it.
