A leap of Faith and a Journey of Hope

My name is Amy Fletcher and I am the Founder and Managing Director at Project House of Hope.

House of Hope is a non-profit organization educating, empowering and equipping Haitians to build stronger communities and families through sustainable programs and orphan care.

In 2012, I packed my bags for short term trip to Haiti. While there, I grew to love the country and its hope-filled and joyful people. I decided I wanted to make a lasting impact there and within weeks of returning home, spoke with Haitian native Kesnel (Paul) Toussaint. He told me about a small orphanage in Montrouis, Haiti that relied solely on funding from the local church. These funds enabled staff to provide just one meal a day for the children. Some of the kids had never received a medical evaluation in their lives. I was heartbroken and knew I had to do something.

To combat these issues and fight for the orphans of Haiti, myself and Paul founded House of Hope. Since backing the orphanage in Montrouis, we have worked to provide food, shelter, education, healthcare and spiritual and emotional outreach. While caring for the children is the first objective, House of Hope now focuses programs on community development, education, sustainable farming, and women’s empowerment as solutions to fight poverty in a developing nation and encourage and enable families to stay together.

Starting my House of Hope journey from just a monetary perspective to support; it then grew to visiting where I feel in love with the people and knew I wanted to do more. I have been back to Haiti many times since my initial visit in 2012 with a new adventure and chance to help around every turn. With each trip grew a deeper desire to do more for the people of Haiti.

Implementing travel programs, growing our donor base and continuing to spread the word about Project House of Hope; things were looking up and we were making a huge impact. We had hopes that 2020 would be our best year yet; however when the pandemic hit our world at House of Hope as most others became uncertain and unpredictable. In addition to this the country was experiencing extreme civil and political unrest and all travel to the county was suspended.

After a year of uncertainty and not being able to be as present in the lives of the people I was put on this earth to serve my husband and I decided to relocate to Haiti. We are excited to give Project House of Hope a fresh start, committing to the kids, community, our board and all of those who have supported us.

Since deciding to move there have been some delays and setbacks as the President of Haiti was assassinated which created another sense of uncertainty. My husband Stacey and I decided this was even more reason to continue with our move.

In doing so we are leaving our home in Ohio, quitting our jobs, and dedicating ourselves to the children at House of Hope and the community. To make this move a success we are asking for you to keep us and our mission in your prayers as we navigate this move and adventure in Haiti.

We will also need your financial support. The move to Haiti is an expensive one yet one we feel is worth every cent! Thanks in advance for being an instrumental part of our journey, we could not possibly make this happen without your support.
