A Leap for the Future: Strengthening the Rathnew Boxing Club
My name is Kyle O’Connor, and I’m 26 years old. Throughout the last few years, I have witnessed firsthand the resilience and dedication of healthcare workers during the pandemic. I made the personal choice to continue working at a nursing home during this time, not for praise, but because I couldn’t imagine doing anything else while our community needed support. I’ve seen the best of people when circumstances were at their worst. But I also saw something else—how easily the needs of our youth, particularly in sports, can be overlooked.
As someone who has always been passionate about boxing, I’ve often lamented the lack of facilities for kids in our community. It’s not just about the sport; it’s about giving them a place where they can learn discipline, build confidence, and chase their dreams. The Rathnew Boxing Club is at the heart of this effort, and we have a chance to solidify its future.
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be taking on a skydive as part of a major fundraising event. This isn’t just about the thrill; it’s about rallying our community around a cause that truly matters. The goal is to raise €4,000 to invest in state-of-the-art facilities and secure the future of the Rathnew Boxing Club. These funds will ensure that the club can continue to provide a safe, supportive environment for young athletes, some of whom may one day represent us on the Olympic stage.
Our goal is to provide the necessary equipment—ranging from gloves, punching bags, and headgear, to speed bags, jump ropes, and mats. And just as crucially, these funds will help cover the clubhouse rent, ensuring the club remains a pillar of our community for years to come.
To make this event even more engaging, I’m organizing a series of promotional activities, including a spin the wheel with three winners selected at random. I want everyone to feel part of this journey, whether through a donation, participating, or simply cheering us on as I take the leap.
