Help Us Honor Alberto “Picasso” Rangel with a Memorial Bench at Camp

The Laurel Foundation community recently lost someone truly special, Alberto Rangel, lovingly known as “Picasso.”

As a volunteer social worker with The Laurel Foundation, Picasso gave so much of himself to the youth, families, volunteers, and staff he served. He brought compassion, humor, wisdom, and an extraordinary ability to make people feel safe, seen, and deeply cared for.

At camp, some of the most important moments happen quietly, during a heartfelt conversation between a camper and counselor, a volunteer checking in with a struggling teen, or a moment of reflection under the trees after a long day of growth, laughter, and healing. Picasso understood the power of these moments. He was often the person sitting beside someone, listening without judgment, offering support, kindness, and hope.

To honor his beautiful legacy, we are raising funds to create a Memorial Bench, plaque, and a tree dedication at camp in Alberto “Picasso” Rangel’s memory.

This bench will be more than a place to sit. It will be a place for connection, comfort, reflection, healing, and conversation, a space where campers, counselors, volunteers, and staff can gather, talk, process emotions, share stories, or simply take a quiet moment when they need it most.

It will stand as a lasting reminder of Picasso’s caring spirit, his dedication to supporting vulnerable youth, and the incredible love he brought to The Laurel Foundation community.

• A commemorative plaque honoring Alberto “Picasso” Rangel

• A tree planted in his name

• Installation and creation of a permanent space for healing, conversation, and remembrance
