A Laptop for Marion in Kenya
In 2015 The Biscuit Factory worked on a project about clean water in Kisumu, Kenya. The family we filmed with lived in a mud house at the top of a steep hill (with a whole litter of adorable puppies) and had to spend a lot of time hauling lake water to drink and cook with - which sometimes made them sick.
We talked about what would make a long term difference to the family and decided to help their oldest daughter, Marion, go to college. Whatwe've ended up doing was made possible by a wonderful guy who works for a non-profit in Kisumu and sends us both the University tuition bills and Marion's report cards. We've also helped with her transportation costs to school and back.
Today Marion is in her last year of university, starting student teaching rotations - and to be effective - SHE NEEDS A LAPTOP.
Turns out, laptops are super expensive in Kenya. We hoped to send her one from the US, but shipping makes it just as costly and we worry
it may never arrive or could be held up by unexpected duties.
You know what they say - educate a girl and you help a whole community - this is your chance! Pitch in and help us get a freshly minted student teacher in Kisumu, Kenya the last thing she really needs to be a success. We'd appreciate it so much!
