About the Film

A La Flor Más Bella (To the Most Beautiful Flower) is a short 2D animated film that portrays stories of Latin American migration to the U.S. In addition to depicting different parts of the journey, the film explores the migrants themselves, their personalities, motives, roles, and aspirations.

Beginning as a Capstone Project for the Schedler Honors College at the University of Central Arkansas, the project has become a collaborative effort of artists from around the world. Funds will be used to recruit additional artists and increase our team’s current stipend so we can complete production.

Our Film’s Story

Aiming for an authentic portrayal of these stories, the stories in our film are inspired by events experienced by real migrants on their journeys. The film covers three different stories of migrants, following them from their native countries across Central America and Mexico as they make their way to the U.S. Though from different countries, our characters - a family, a single mother and her daughter, and a father - meet along the way and bond together to make the most of hopeful moments and carry each other through harrowing ones. Highlighting the beauty of their lives as well as the tragedy, A La Flor Más Bella is a memorial of migrants’ resilience, extraordinary efforts, and heart-rending sacrifice.

Our Goal

The film’s purpose is to provide the public with a more personal, authentic picture of this journey and its protagonists. From our film’s style to our choice of 2D animation, we’ve strived to reflect artisanry and the human touch in our portrayal of these stories, sharing them in an accessible yet beautiful medium. We hope to bring a clearer perspective on this topic and bring awareness to these stories that may otherwise never be recognized.
