A knee replacement for WW2 Hero, Denis Hosgood

Donation protected
Our very own hero, Denis Hosgood is in desperate need of a knee replacement. Unfortunately due to the coronavirus outbreak all NHS waiting times have lengthened and our only option now is to send him for private treatment.

At 94, Denis has up until now been living a very full and healthy life. Only recently since lockdown has his health and mobility deteriorated to the point where he can no longer walk.

We would love to be able to give back in some small way given the sacrifices he has made during his life. At age only 15 Denis volunteered for the Home Guards, and by age 16 he was sent to Fort George in Scotland where he joined the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. Den spent years travelling through Europe, Japan, and India fighting for the British Army.  Notable battles he fought at include the Battle of the Zig Canal, Operation Noah, and Operation Veritable to name only a few. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his face, survived sepsis secondary to skin infections from tropical climates, experienced sights no teenager should ever have to endure and fought with complete fearlessness to protect our freedom. He has continued to suffer consequences from his time in the war, with skin cancer and arthritic changes to his bones affected by his wounds. Not once has he complained.

As a veteran Den has not stopped giving back. He has been an avid collector for the Poppy Appeal raising thousands of pounds for veterans across the UK and has completed numerous visits to school children and communities to tell his stories of the war. He is a key member of the charity Project 71.

During his veteran years he has been fortunate enough to return to the very battlefields he has fought at, which has given him the opportunity to reconnect with his fallen friends and lay old memories to rest.

Our aim is to get Den up and back on his feet to improve his quality of life and for him to make his final trips in Europe to commemorate his "brothers". We believe and hope we can appeal to you to help our very much loved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather to offer him his quality of life in return for all he has done.

He is the epitome of a true English Gentleman, a one of a kind man, and is one of the last few WW2 soldiers. We are just so grateful for your help and support and hope we can give something back to our wonderful hero.

You can read all about Den's time in the war in a book he has written named "Once a Cameron, Always a Cameron" available at Project 71 website.

We have attached a video link showing a recent veterans trip Den attended and just quite how much it meant to him: The Veterans Return

Thank you so much.

The Hosgood family.

N.B : if unfortunately this becomes an impossible solution for Den, of course all money will be sent to a selection of veteran charities.
