My name is Lisa Lee, an Artist and Mother of a black son. I'm raising money for the pre-production of a film entitled A King Unfolding. The film is about a young black king with some growing to do. A council of carefully selected elder-kings answer the call, and bestow upon him, wisdom which includes answers to difficult questions about manhood, money management, emotions, racism, encounters with police, etc. This film is not your garden variety coming of age film! There will be other artforms like illustration, deep discussion among mothers while crafting, Hip Hop, jazz, and choreography, and eventually a live element.

On one of my quiet morning walks, I found myself tearfully asking why I have been chosen to feel all of the difficult emotions associated with raising a black son. The answer is that I'll use it as raw material to make something meaningful that will bring healing to my community.

Our first shoot is on August 31st, which is quickly approaching, as is grant application deadline season!

Your donation will pay the filmmaker to create a package that communicates the vision to funders to get them excited about funding the full production. It will also pay for the venue, food and supplies. Donations of any amount are appreciated; there is no amount too large or small.
