Hi everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to talk about my amazing, constantly happy, extremely positive, and incredibly beautiful Soror and friend Cecilie. We share a lot of friends and family on Facebook so I’m sure many of you know she was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease (ESRD), and began PD Dialysis in February 2021. The BEST news, however, is she just received word she IS A MATCH FOR A NEW KIDNEY! She’ll be heading into transplant surgery Tuesday, October 18th! She has been so strong through all of this, even while some of us have been holding our breath! Who knows why these things happen to some of our best humans…Maybe in this instance, it’s so we are reminded to pause and take stock in life and lend a hand to one another. She’s already got a most tremendous support system in her husband, Al, her sister Kelli and Mom Fran (otherwise known as “Frances L”), and so I thought, maybe we could be a help to them, offering our support, care, and love.
Personally, I wasn’t a match for my friend. Though I tried like hell! But now that a Living Donor has been identified, I am asking that we offer our assistance by donating in efforts to help them cover the mound of medical and administrative costs they’re facing with the impending surgery, prescriptions, travel, lodging and aftercare. Some will be covered by insurance, but the out-of-pocket always outpaces the benefits. Again, only God knows why we are given these challenges, but maybe with a collective effort we can help her and her family get through it. I’m asking: please consider making a donation toward this effort. Cecilie will have so much to contend with given her recovery, and how susceptible she’ll be to complications and/or infections immediately following transplant, so let us try to help to alleviate some of the financial burden. It’s admittedly tough for everyone these days, yet I believe there is always room to give to someone in need. Just like living organ donation, it’s a Big Ask. So, again, I’m asking on her behalf. And any contribution helps! It’s easy to give, and there is only a nominal transaction fee. Mostly, it’s a good thing to do to lend a helping hand.
Thanks for your time and consideration. Cecilie means a lot to me…If she didn’t, I couldn’t have written this request…Either way, she’s getting a new kidney, and so please keep praying for strength and healing not just for her, but also her donor and their family. Thanks again and God bless.

The following are sites where you can learn more about Living Donation, as well as how to initiate the compatibility assessment. You may complete the online health history questionnaire at www.UCSDlivingdonor.org; or you may provide information by phone by calling [phone redacted] and asking for the living donor team. If they determine you’re a candidate for someone on the list, then the living donor coordinator will follow up accordingly. Additional general information may be found at kidney.org (National Kidney Foundation), www.exploretransplant.org, and on IG at #chronickidneydisease and @nationalkidneyfoundation.
Though it may not be the right choice for everyone, please consider sharing this post with your friends and colleagues. Your efforts may may be able to make a difference in someone’s life with what is an extremely generous gift in living donation.
