A Kidney for Miguel

We are Gisela Asinc, 62 years old, and Jorge Flores, 71 years old, retired; the parents of Miguel Flores Asinc, a 27-year-old young man. We reside in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Three years ago, Miguel was diagnosed with chronic renal insufficiency (kidney failure), a silent disease that often manifests in its terminal stage. The only treatment available is dialysis. Our son began with peritoneal dialysis which involves a tube to be permanently in your stomach, and for 8-10 hours a day connected to machine that pumps a solution to clean the system. This type of dialysis didn’t work and is currently undergoing hemodialysis. To enhance his quality of life, he needs a kidney transplant and has been on the waiting list for approximately 5 months.

On November 4th of this year, he underwent a transplant surgery. Unfortunately, four hours after the new kidney was implanted, he couldn’t feel his leg and found out there was thrombosis (blood clot) in the kidney, leading to a second immediate surgery in an attempt to save the new kidney. Regrettably, it was unsuccessful, and the kidney had to be removed.

We are deeply affected by what happened, relying solely on our faith and trust in God to navigate these challenges.

Currently, our son is stable but requires anticoagulants to prevent further thrombosis. Due to his delicate condition, he is considered a national priority on the transplant waiting list. The medical team is prepared for a new transplant, hopefully, in approximately 3 months when Miguel recovers from the surgeries.

We pray that things improve for our son; God is our strength and refuge in these difficult times.

Until now, we've managed the expenses of this double surgery through savings and loans. However, we now need financial assistance for a second transplant, and we are asking for your help through donations.

"Miguelito," as we call him, is the youngest of the family with a tender smile, bravery, and resilience. He has remained strong and optimistic no matter what life has thrown at him, and we are so grateful and inspired by attitude. Despite his situation, Miguel continued his university studies and successfully became a Systems Engineer, graduating in February 2023.

He hasn't been able to secure a job that accommodates his situation, given his every other day dialysis, inability to travel, and the need to be ready for potential transplant calls. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

UN RIÑÓN PARA MIGUEL

Gisela Asinc, 62 años, y Jorge Flores, 71 años, jubilado; somos  padres de Miguel Flores Asinc, de 27 años.

Vivimos en Guayaquil, hace 3 años Miguel fue detectado con insuficiencia renal crónica, es una enfermedad silenciosa que  cuando se manifiesta en el paciente ya está en su etapa terminal, el único tratamiento es la diálisis . Nuestro hijo comenzó con diálisis peritoneal y actualmente se  encuentra haciéndose hemodiálisis. Para mejorar su calidad de vida necesita un transplante de riñón;  está en lista de espera desde hace más o menos 5 meses.

El 4 de noviembre de este año fue sometido a una cirugía de transplante, luego de ser implantado el nuevo riñón, a las 4 horas presentó una trombosis en el mismo, teniendo que ser sometido a una segunda intervención inmediatamente para tratar de salvar el nuevo riñón, pero no se pudo y se tuvo que retirar; también presentó trombosis femoral.

Estamos muy golpeados por lo que sucedió, solo nuestra fe y confianza en Dios ha permitido que podamos sortear estos inconvenientes para seguir luchando.

Actualmente nuestro hijo se encuentra estable pero necesita inyectarse anticoagulantes para evitar otra trombosis.

Cabe indicar que por su condición delicada pasa a ser considerado como prioridad nacional en la lista de espera de transplantes. El personal médico que lo atiende está listo para un nuevo trasplante, si Dios quiere, en  aproximadamente 3 meses, cuando Miguel se recupere de las cirugías , ya que  su organismo se deteriora conforme pasa el tiempo, su juventud hace que este deterioro no sea muy notorio.

Esperamos en Dios que las cosas mejoren para nuestro hijo, Dios es nuestra fortaleza y nuestro refugio en estos momentos difíciles.

Hasta ahora hemos podido afrontar los gastos que ha demandado esta doble cirugía, con los ahorros y préstamos que hemos hecho, pero ahora necesitamos ayuda económica para un segundo trasplante y apelamos a su buena voluntad .

Miguelito, como lo llamamos todos los que lo conocemos, es un joven de tierna sonrisa, valiente y esforzado, solo Dios le  puede dar esa fortaleza que mantiene e impresiona; cada día nos da lecciones de vida.  

A pesar de encontrarse en esta situación, Miguel continuó sus estudios en la universidad y culminó con éxito todo lo que se propuso. Es Ingeniero  en Sistemas, se incorporó en febrero del 2023.

No ha podido conseguir un trabajo que se ajuste a su situación, tiene diálisis tres veces a la semana, no puede viajar, y al estar atento a las llamadas para posibles transplantes debe suspender toda actividad que esté
