"I'm doing fine, Patti," "Feeling great," "Excellent doctor visit," my brother responded whenever I checked on him. Even after emergency colon cancer surgery and after going on dialysis, he was "Feeling good. Doing great. Healing really fast!" You know how people say, "He never once complained?" Well, he never did. He never wanted me to worry.
Peter had been on the Kidney Transplant List for a few years, when he was diagnosed with cancer. He was removed from the list, having to remain cancer-free for two years before he could be reinstated. In September 2021, he received the amazing news that he was cancer-free and was added back onto the transplant list.
In November, Shands Hospital called. They had his kidney! He and his wife Sarah rushed 150 miles to Gainesville, where he underwent successful kidney transplant surgery. The following morning, we were on the phone, me blubbering the entire time, him telling me about the kidney and how he.....guess what? Was "Doing fine! Feeling great!"
Peter is doing well, however there are many expenses of follow-up care, including weekly trips to the hospital for doctor visits, hospital stays, lab tests, and life-sustaining and very expensive immunosuppressive medications which he will have to take for the rest of his life.
Our family will be eternally grateful to Peter's donor for giving him a second chance at life. He is an awesome husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend. We do not want him worrying about medical bills.
It will be a long journey to complete health for Peter. Your contribution to this Fund will help him along the way. Thank you so much for whatever you can donate, your prayers, and/or sharing this GoFundMe page.
