Dr. A. Karim Khudairi (2 April 1925 - 14 April 2020) was a celebrated educator, scientist, businessman, humanitarian, and interfaith advocate. He devoted his life to his family and the betterment of those around him, and was an inspiration to countless lives he touched. As a university professor and dean, he encouraged exploration, research, and innovation, with a keen eye on the future. As an entrepreneur, he pioneered, optimized, and modernized local food production, manufacturing, and marketing from farm to the store shelf. After retiring, he dedicated himself towards societal concerns, spending more than five decades organizing and empowering communities by unifying people from all backgrounds and strata. He was amongst the most recognizable interfaith champions in New England, and was a popular facilitator and spokesperson across numerous dialogues, outreach programs, and media interviews.

His love of learning, nature, the arts, innovation, and humanity was unabated throughout his lifetime. Whether researching chlorophyll synthesis in tomatoes, lecturing at Harvard, grafting fruit trees, chairing interfaith summits, or joining Zoom calls from his iPhone (as he did in his final days), his passion for connecting people and commitment to excellence were undeniable. He witnessed great leaps in technology —the invention of television, computers, the moon landing, microwave ovens, test tube babies, digital cameras, the onset of the Web, the evolution of the smartphone, and so much more. He was cheering the scientists and inventors behind the next generation of innovation every step of the way, with the latest personal technology at his fingertips.

He was a kind and patient leader. His generosity as a silent benefactor to orphans, families, students, creatives, institutions, communities, and disadvantaged individuals positively impacted innumerable lives. His winsome personality and sharp wit were magnetic to many, and made him a focal point amongst educators, religious clerics, politicians, and the press. His gentle nature and compassion inspired, empowered, and galvanized communities to work together to improve their standing and elevate their sense of belonging.

Despite his high public profile and prominent lineage, he was a humble, approachable man who shunned ostentation and never felt that any individual was beneath him. Almost everyone who met him would say that they learned something after speaking with him.

He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

The funds donated to this GoFundMe campaign will be used to seed the A. Karim Khudairi Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that will advance Dr. Khudairi’s legacy by raising awareness, funding scholarships, and supporting events that promote education and interfaith initiatives.

We thank you in advance for your kind contribution to honor Dr. Khudairi’s spirit, accomplishments, and vision for a more tolerant, inclusive world
