I’m Ginger (Virginia), and for a long time I’ve been fighting battles that most people never see. I live with diabetes, severe anxiety and panic attacks, depression, OCD, and a deep fear of germs that make every day tasks overwhelming. I was once a very loving person that loved to give hugs, but now — I can’t even allow people within my personal space unless it’s absolutely necessary. Even so, I keep pushing forward — not just for myself, but for my family.

I care for my elderly mother and help out my brother, who faces both physical and mental challenges that keep him from working. They depend on me, and I want to be there for them the way they’ve always tried to be there for me.

But in the summer of 2024, life threw us a blow we never expected. Lightning struck a tree in our front yard, and both of our vehicles were hit and ruined. Insurance called it an “act of God” and wouldn’t help. Fixing the cars would have cost more than they were worth, and we simply didn’t have the means. Since then, we’ve had no transportation of our own and have had to rely on family and friends for every appointment, errand, and medication pickup.

I still need follow‑ups with my oncologist. Because I’ve had cancer before, my chances of developing other types are higher, so staying consistent with screenings is incredibly important — and I’m hopeful that everything will continue to stay clear.
