A journey back to a new normal

Hello, I’m Christopher Quidlat, and I lived in Apartment 3N @1427 W Farwell Ave in Rogers Park. This has been a home for me and my partner Shawn Rogers since 2014, when on a snowy January 1st, we played Tetris moving furniture up 3 circuitous flights of stairs to a charming vintage 1-bedroom apartment. Shawn considered an eclectic collection of Maria Yee, Room&Board, and Baker furnitures his lifelong treasures (I saw them as a proud reflection of his keen eye for design).

But all of that was turned upside down 2 days ago when our neighbor below us fell asleep with a cigarette in her hand (something that was expressedly not allowed in our building, just like any others). What transpired thereafter can be seen in the news.

There’s no point dwelling in the past or how it happened. I can only think about how to move past all this, how to help my partner heal, and how to rebuild our lives, piece by piece…back to a new normal
