My name is Gwen, the owner of Heart and Sole Wellness in Brandon, MB. I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my client.

Community in Action — An Appeal to Help One of Our Own

I’m proud to have a wellness family that is not just built on healing sessions, but on caring for one another through life ups and downs.

One of my clients who is a special part of this family, a foster parent, a kind and resilient person, needs our help. Her fiancé in Jamaica along with his two children from limited means, were deeply affected in hurricane Melissa living just outside of Montego Bay. The eventual goal is getting them to Canada, and they have been dealing with that difficult process for a few months already. In the meantime, they need help.

The resort that the father works at has been badly damaged, and there is no income coming in. Their house was badly damaged, the roof is gone, and belongings inside destroyed by rain. They have no power, and they are out of candles. There is no cell service where they live, and they had to walk a great distance to be able to message my client. She had not heard from them for nearly a week. It is a logistical nightmare as they face immense hardship trying to recover and rebuild.

I’m hoping that we can all come together as a community to offer support and hope. If you feel called to help as I do, I am collecting donations to assist with repairs and supplies. No amount is too small, and every guesture of kindness makes a difference. So often, we see these things on the news, and the problem seems so big that we feel powerless to help. We may not be able to help everyone, but we can make a real difference to this family, and know that the money is going to get directly to them immediately and with my personal guarantee.

My client had a flight booked next week to officially get engaged, but will be flying there with donations and supplies to help rebuild instead. She is of course, putting all of her own funds that she’s able, into helping. WestJet has also graciously agreed to cover freight on supplies ,which are less expensive and easier to get access to here. There is a real shortage on the island because everyone is needing supplies.

Immediate needs are a generator, solar lights , a chainsaw ( which will also be used to help other families) food, building supplies for fixing the home. I’m also hoping to raise enough to help replace lost income during this transition and time of hardship. It’s early days but we are thinking about $4- 5000 is what is needed right now for immediate emergency funding, and repairs to see them through to this.

Thank you in advance for showing the love and compassion that make this wellness family so special. If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to message me and I will answer as best I can.
