Dear Friends,
As I travel through Southeast Asia, I’m constantly reminded of the beauty of simplicity and the profound kindness that lives in everyday people. In places where material wealth is scarce, I have found deep spiritual wealth where family, community, and grace come first.
While in Bali, I met a man named Gede, the hotel driver at Sankara. From the start, he treated me and my friend as family, guiding us to local treasures, welcoming us into his home, and introducing us to his loved ones. His family lives modestly but joyfully, including his wife, their children, and Gede’s 101-year-old grandfather.
One of his children, a bright 6-year-old girl named Komang Rahayu, has a severe cleft palate. Though she’s already undergone a few surgeries, she still struggles to breathe and eat. Inside her mouth, a tumor now blocks her ability to chew solid food. Her mother lovingly mashes every meal by hand. Another surgery could change Komang’s life, allowing her to eat and speak more freely, but the cost of the procedure and post-operative care is nearly $8,000 USD, an impossible amount for a family whose monthly income is less than $185.
Gede never asked me for help. His humility and kindness moved me deeply. It was his story, his daughter’s quiet strength, and the warmth of their home that led me to take action. With his permission, I’m raising funds to help Komang receive the surgery she urgently needs.
There is no health insurance to ease their burden. No safety net. Just a father doing everything he can with what little he has, and the love of a community that believes in showing up for one another.
This is where you come in.
I’m asking from the depth of my heart for your help. If each of us contributes what we can, and if you’re willing to share this story with your own community, we can raise the funds together. We can be the village that helps give Komang a future of possibility.
Every donation matters. Every act of kindness is felt.
