A Hui Hou Chucky Cope
Donation protected
Aloha my name is Nancy Concepcion, a friend of the Cope Ohana. I am assisting the family with raising funds that will go towards Chucky’s expenses incurred during Chucky's illness.
Chucky, a loving father, friend to many, and a dedicated firefighter servicing our community passed away on September 9, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.
In 2018 after paddling in the IVF World Paddling Championships in Tahiti, Chucky came home to discover a lump in his neck. The lump turned out to be a tumor and he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
After 6 months of treatments, he was able to achieve remission. Chucky thought he had won and beat the cancer. However, In February 2020 he discovered the cancer had metastasized to his brain causing a Central Nervous System Lymphoma. It was an uphill battle seeking a cure. Chucky started off bravely with multiple series of treatments in Honolulu, but the cancer was resistant. In desperation, he looked for alternative ways to beat the cancer. He was able to enroll in a clinical trial at the City of Hope in California. Again, Chucky bravely took steps to beat the cancer but while at the City of Hope he contracted a rare and fatal fungus that attacked his body. He had a stroke which caused neurological damage and in addition, he contracted pneumonia. Although Chucky and his family and friends had hoped that he could get well and come home to Hawaii, Chucky passed away in California with his immediate family by his side.
Chucky was a firefighter and spent his career helping others. Now it’s time for us to rally and help the Cope Ohana in their time of need.
Mahalo nui for all donations and prayers.
