At 4:00AM on the morning of Monday, March 9th, 2026, a devastating fire broke out in my close friend David Montero’s townhouse complex where his family lives in Stoney Creek, Ontario near Hamilton.

My friend’s family lost their entire unit, all of their belongings, and two vehicles, all completely destroyed in the fire. Thankfully, everyone was able to escape safely and no one was injured. While the family does have insurance, they are currently left with very little and rebuilding their lives will take time and effort.

My friend David and his younger brother Juan are both hardworking students currently attending Wilfrid Laurier University, and come from a dedicated and hardworking family, now facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives after this incident. They’re some of the greatest and most standup people I have ever met and they don’t deserve to be going through this.
