In the UK, only 16% of screenwriters, 22% of directors, and 32% of producers are female.

The Team: Supporting a small indie, all female film making team, all rising stars with in the UK.

Director: Sarah Leigh, Writer, Director and Actor. Sarah is the founder of Inclusivity Films, a company dedicated to the representation of d/Deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent talent, on and off screen. Her unique style of story telling helps elevate Mary's experience.

Director of Photography: Domizia Salusest, originating from the home of Cinematography, Domizia has been cutting her teeth on the short film circuit earning her place with the prestigious group Illuminatrix Rising.

Producer: Lisa Killeen, a alumni from the prestigious National Film & Television School, Lisa has over 7 years working across locations, production and development. After setting up an company on 2023 to help put females stories on the big screen.

About our Mary:

Mary is an average midlife London woman in an average middling job. She misses the experiences and achievements she took for granted when she was younger - holidays, success at her job in advertising, camaraderie, family events.

Now perimenopausal, Mary drinks too much and has forgotten what once motivated her. She wonders if her attitudes and values are no longer relevant. At an age where many women become invisible, Mary’s visibility is because of her recent facial hair growth.

Why now?

Hairy Mary gives a different perspective to the female experience, giving that there are over 15 million women in perimenopause or menopause may be experiencing, with more information coming out on the neurological changes that happen to women during this stigmatised time of life. The fact are, that many women are not aware of varying changes during Perimenopause, like Mary who is struggling with isolation along with body issues. Sharing this story will help women suffering in silence.
