A Home for the Hudson Lyric Opera

Tax deductible
About the Hudson Lyric Opera: (HLO) was started in 2006 by Rosalinda Perez with the intention of sharing her love of opera by bringing high quality performances to the community.  To that end, the opera company performs in English so that it can be appreciated by both opera lovers and those who are seeing opera for the first time.  Our productions are performed with costumes, scenery and orchestra. The Hudson Lyric Opera is a nonprofit 501 (c )(3) organization.

Over the past 14 years, the HLO has brought to the public full productions of Amahl and the Night Visitors, Die Fledermaus, The Magic Flute, Faust, The Tales of Hoffmann, A Masked Ball and La Boheme, among others. We have been fortunate to perform these operas at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Stony Point for all those years.

We Lost our “Home”:  In the summer of 2019, after 14 years, we had to leave Stony Point and find a new “home”.  We are very happy to find our new “home” at the Clarkstown Reform Church in West Nyack.

Why we Need Your Help: This move has incurred many expenses for the opera company and that is why we are starting this “Go-Fund-Me” in order to raise funds to help pay for the move. Unfortunately, ticket sales do not cover the cost of the opera production.  So we do not have a reserve fund set aside to pay for this move.

We estimate that the cost will be $10,000.  We need to upgrade the electrical capacity of the room, to set up lighting for the stage, expand the stage in front, and pay the yearly rental fee (we did not pay rent in Stony Point).

Why this is important to you as a donor:  As the only opera company in Rockland County, the HLO serves the community by bringing quality classical music (opera) to the local community and giving people the opportunity to see opera without having to travel to New York City.  It provides the arts and opera at a nominal cost, compared to seeing an opera at the Metropolitan Opera.

Our orchestra provides an opportunity for local high school and college music students to learn from and perform with professional musicians.

We are also providing successful field trips for local school districts so that young students may be further educated.  For example, 65 7th and 8th grade students from Pomona Middle School have attended our performances in the past.

Why this is important to us:  HLO gives opportunities for talented singers and musicians like us to perform in an opera (either in major roles or in choruses).  We benefit by expanding our repertoire, improving our vocal and acting techniques.  It also gives experience to our stage crew students to operate the lights and learn about set staging.

HLO does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, or religion.  Members come from all walks of life and are all welcome.

Some of our members tell why the HLO is important to them and the community:
Angela Argenzio:  “HLO provides beautiful music for all of Rockland and beautiful music promotes a beautiful society.  Please donate and help make Rockland more beautiful!”

Terence Hyde: “I started with the HLO in 2010 in the production of Faust.  The HLO gives me the opportunity to sing tenor roles in opera.  The members are like a family to me.  The HLO is important to the community because it provides a place where people who don't know opera can come and see it in English and enjoy it without having to go to New York City.
