Happy Ending: A Home for Garry

Donation protected
Friends and family,
We want to thank you again for giving to the GoFundMe Campaign for our brother, Garry Roehling.  We also want you to know that the story has a happy ending.

On Sunday, July 8, eighteen days after a flood destroyed Garry's home and belongings, he moved into his new place.  Thanks to your giving, he was able to purchase bedding, a sofa and chair, a tv and tv stand--all new--and his fridge and pantry are stocked with the essentials.  He also was able to purchase a dining table and chairs from a local estate sale, and outfitted his kitchen with gently-used dishes, glasses, silverware, and cookware from family, friends, and a local church that is aiding victims of the June 20 floods.

Disaster has a way of galvanizing the most distant community of friends.  When Garry's friends heard what happened, you all asked, "What can I do to help?"  When Darcy and Amigh's friends heard the news, you gave generously to someone you don't even know.

Garry isn't on social media or email.  In fact, he doesn't even own a computer, so we want to send thanks to you on his behalf.

We want to offer a special thanks to Bert and Amy Hubbard; for more than a week they opened their home and their table to Garry, and sheltered his cats.

Also a special thanks to Pam Dockum and Leslie Koeper who helped Garry in the first awful days.

Thank you to Fred Lehman for spreading the word on Facebook, and to Fred, Michael and Carrie Swartz, and Dick Murray for your giving, but also for your phone calls--they meant a lot.

Thank you, thank you to Pat Kraber, Sue Orlando, Leslie Moss, Linda Mars, Victor Tonas, and Craig Allen for your generous donations.

Thank you to our cousins, Eric and Missy Roehling, Allison Haley, and Chris Buffington.

Thank you to Darcy's friends, Nancy Pappas, Mui Hwa Ng, Freeda Fernandes, and Jody Walter.

Thank you to Amigh's friends, Holly, Mame, and Woody.

And thank you Christine Zubrow.

I want to close with a pic with Garry trying to assemble his tv stand, while Felix the cat manages the endeavor!

Thank you,
Amigh and Darcy,
Garry's sisters

Hi friends and family,
As you may know, Pittsburgh was hit heavily with rain last Wednesday night, and our brother Garry's ground floor apartment in Bridgeville was flooded to a level of five feet.  He escaped through the bathroom window, climbed to the roof, where he waited through the night for the waters to recede.

Garry lost everything.  He has nothing left--no home, no furniture, no clothes--only his car, which he managed to move to higher ground.

Word of the flood immediately reached family and close friends.  But on Friday, when Garry's photo appeared on the front page of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, his friends from around the country reached out to help.  In Garry's words, "it's humbling."

Today began the search for a new place to live--close to work, near family and friends, and away from water.  As his sisters, we will pay his rent and utilities while he gets back on his feet.

Because there have been so many offers to help we also decided to set up this Go Fund Me page to help Garry piece his life back together.  We'd like to purchase all Garry will need for daily living --a bed, kitchen appliances, linens, a sofa--to help him live comfortably.

If you can donate a small amount to help Garry, we would be very grateful.

Thank you, and love,
Amigh and Darcy,
Garry's sisters
