Hi, I’m Kathy, and I’m a foster for Be Fido’s Friend NFP, an organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and finding them the loving forever homes they deserve.

Toby came to me in October after a heartbreaking start. He had been thrown out with the trash by his family and later found by a neighbor, who kept him in their yard for a week before posting him on Facebook Marketplace. A friend saw the post, rushed to get him, and I immediately reached out to Be Fido’s Friend—who didn’t hesitate for a moment to take him into the rescue.

Toby is a 13-year-old chihuahua who arrived severely emaciated, weighing only 3.4 lbs. Since being with me, he has gained half a pound, but his body still isn’t processing food properly. He’s unable to retain nutrients, and food either comes back up or passes through too quickly. He’s under the care of a wonderful veterinarian, but he now urgently needs to see a specialist to understand why his body is rejecting food.

Aside from this issue, Toby is remarkably healthy—his bloodwork looks good, and he is a happy, sweet boy with a strong heart, liver, and kidneys. He deserves comfort and love in his senior years. But until we can stabilize his weight and help his body accept food, he can’t be neutered, vaccinated, or considered adoptable.
