Avon Elementary School is a great, diverse and giving community and we truly appreciate you taking a moment to read this story. We've known The Mellizo family since 2022 when Edgar arrived as an international teacher from Colombia to our school. Julieta, his daughter, arrived this summer to join her father and to continue her studies at AES in the 5th grade. She is a vibrant, amazing girl that is destined to do amazing things with her life. Her spirit is as beautiful as her smile and her dreams. In October Julieta had a stomach virus that would not seem to go away, she was sent to Children's Hospital for further studies. Julieta has been diagnosed with a Medulloblastoma (cancerous brain tumor) and her treatment needs to start right away in Denver. For six weeks she will receive Radiation Therapy. After a brief period of rest, she will resume her treatment with Chemotherapy. Thankfully her prognosis is very positive with the appropriate treatment. We want to support this wonderful family going through this difficult time by raising funds for Julieta’s medical expenses, travel to Denver and time missed at work. All donations will go directly to the Mellizo family so it can be used immediately towards bills and other expenses. Avon Elementary es una comunidad grandiosa, diversa y solidaria y de verdad apreciamos mucho que se tomen un momento para leer esta historia. Conocemos la familia Mellizo desde el 2022 cuando Edgar llegó a nuestra escuela desde Colombia como maestro internacional. Julieta, su hija, llegó este verano a unirse a su papá y seguir sus estudios en AES en el 5to grado. Ella es una niña increíble, vibrante destinada a hacer grandes cosas con su vida. Su espíritu es tan hermoso como su sonrisa y sus sueños. En octubre Julieta tuvo un virus estomacal que no mejoraba, fue enviada al Children 's Hospital para que le hicieran más exámenes. Julieta fue diagnosticada con un Meduloblastoma (tumor cerebral canceroso) y su tratamiento necesita iniciar de inmediato en Denver. Por seis semanas ella recibirá radioterapia. Después de un breve período de descanso, ella seguirá su tratamiento con quimioterapia. Afortunadamente su pronóstico es muy positivo con el tratamiento adecuado. Queremos apoyar a esta familia increíble que está pasando por este difícil momento y recaudar fondos para los gastos médicos de Julieta, la estadía en Denver y el tiempo que papá no pueda trabajar.
