For those of you who don’t know, Jade Quintanilla was involved in a car accident. This past Sunday, April 26th, her family got the call that Jade and 4 others were involved in the serious accident. She was rushed to St. Vincent hospital where she has been in the ICU since. Upon Jade’s initial arrival, her condition included being unable to breath on her own, a bent spine, severed spinal cord, damaged lungs, broken shoulder, and is paralyzed from the waist down.

The day after, they had planned a 12 hour surgery. Jade was in surgery for a couple of hours before her doctors decided her lungs weren’t strong enough to finish the rest of the surgery. After surgery, they inserted a tube in her chest to remove the blood from her lungs and relieve pressure. Her surgery was rescheduled but pushed back due to other complications.

She is more alert and is able to breathe on her own. As of right now her surgery is scheduled for this Monday, May 4th. During surgery, they’ll put rods and screws in her back so she is able to sit up. Once the surgery is complete, Jade will be in the ICU for another week. After that, the plan is to be in rehabilitation for another 3 weeks.

Jade’s family and friends are doing everything they can to help with her medical expenses including her immediate family moving back from Nebraska to Wisconsin to help and support her but it will be an expensive and endless journey. Two others involved in the accident were taken to a hospital in Milwaukee with one in a coma and the other with unknown conditions.
