Hello! my name is Jacqueline Betancourt, mother, grandma, wife, coach. A 60-year-old woman, with a huge desire to continue enjoying life with my family, my parents, students and all the wonderful people that God has put in my path.
To summarize a bit my story and the reason why I sorely feel the need to ask for help to cover all the medical expenses that come with having a high risk disease. In a country like the United States, the treatments are very easy to access but at the same time extremely expensive .
That said, I will tell you what my last months have been
On May 12, I began to feel discomfort in the armpit of my right arm and when I touched at the area I could feel a mass. Without panicking, I went to have my corresponding mammography check-up and the nurse being aware of the situation of the mass, decided not to carry out said examination without any reason and is in this moment when I had an emotional crisis. They didn’t give me any logical explanation to understand why they couldn’t do my rigorous examination and thus be more calm or prevent this mass growing up.
On Friday, May 28, when I was teaching, I felt a very strong pain in my chest and my right arm, pain that prevented me from breathing and which between the nervous I came to think was a heart attack. When I got to the emergency room they made me a XR chest PA and Lateral, this Doctor who treated me in Emergency was the one who referred me to perform ultrasound and mammography that I got on June 8
On June 8, I follow the protocol and they perform both exams (mammography-ultrasound) now detecting a new mass in my right breast.
On June 11, they proceed to perform biopsies of both masses to later receive the results on June 14 where both were positive for carcinoma, one of them metastatic and the other invasive ductal.I feel pain every day and we have decided to take a step forward in this situation and act quickly, for no one is a secret that cancer is a rampant enemy!
I changed my eating habits and next June 18 I will start a naturopathic therapy that consists of 3 phases giving me the opportunity to heal my immune system and strengthen it completely so that when I receive invasive treatments, the ravages are not so severe in my body and stay as strong as possible to beat cancer.
The costs of the treatments and exams until today June 15 exceed $ 40.000, not including chemotherapy which is one of the most expensive treatments. one time I start to get the treatment I dont gonna be available to give my 100% at work and this is definitely a challenge. My family and I have had to face a severe change but with the Love of God and all the help I gonna get over this and it will only be one more learning.

Para resumir un poco mi historia y la razón por la que siento la necesidad de pedir ayuda para cubrir todos los gastos médicos que conlleva tener una enfermedad de alto riesgo. En un país como Estados Unidos, los tratamientos son de muy fácil acceso pero al mismo tiempo extremadamente costosos.
Dicho esto, te contaré cuáles han sido mis últimos meses.
El 12 de mayo comencé a sentir molestias en la axila de mi brazo derecho y cuando toqué la zona pude sentir una masa. Sin entrar en pánico, fui a hacerme mi chequeo mamográfico correspondiente y la enfermera al conocer la situación de la masa, decidió no realizar dicho examen sin ningún motivo y es en este momento cuando tuve una crisis emocional. No me dieron ninguna explicación lógica para entender por qué no pudieron hacer mi riguroso examen y así estar más tranquilos o evitar que esta masa creciera.
El viernes 28 de mayo, cuando estaba dando clases, sentí un dolor muy fuerte en mi pecho y mi brazo derecho, dolor que me impedía respirar y que entre los nervios llegué a pensar que era un infarto. Cuando llegué a urgencias me hicieron un PA de tórax XR y Lateral, este Doctor que me atendió en Urgencias fue el que me refirió para realizar la ecografía y mamografía que me hicieron el 8 de junio.
El 8 de junio sigo el protocolo y me realizan ambos exámenes (mamografía- ultrasonido) detectando ahora una nueva masa en mi mama derecha.
El 11 de junio proceden a realizar biopsias de ambas masas para posteriormente recibir los resultados el 14 de junio donde ambas resultaron positivas para carcinoma, una de ellas metastásica y la otra ductal invasiva, siento dolor todos los días y hemos decidido dar un paso adelante en esta situación y actúar rápidamente, porque para nadie es un secreto que el cáncer es un enemigo galopante !
Cambié mis hábitos alimenticios y el próximo 18 de junio iniciaré una terapia que consta de 3 fases dándome la oportunidad de sanar mi sistema inmunológico y fortalecerlo por completo para que cuando reciba tratamientos invasivos, los estragos no sean tan severos en mi cuerpo y mantenerme lo más fuerte posible para vencer al cáncer.
Los costos de los tratamientos y exámenes hasta hoy 15 de junio superan los $ 40.000, sin incluir la quimioterapia, que es uno de los tratamientos más costosos. Una vez que empiece a recibir el tratamiento, no estaré disponible para dar mi 100% en el trabajo y esto definitivamente es un desafío. Mi familia y yo hemos tenido que enfrentar un cambio severo pero con el Amor de Dios y toda la ayuda voy a superar esto y solo será un aprendizaje más.
