A HELPING HAND FOR DAN DUNHILL AS HE RECOVERS FROM ILLNESS

Greetings, Earthlings. Many of you rock'n'rollers may know Dan 'Dunhill' Batchelor as one of the founders and a longtime member of Sydney's best B-grade garage-punk rock party band The Dunhill Blues (plus a few others).

As you might be aware, Dan recently kicked CANCER in the nuts (plus a related auto-immune disease which caused neurological issues), and made a full return to work and gigs, as well as family life with his two kids and wife Ves.

Dan and Ves worked and saved hard to enjoy a trip to Greece in June 2025 for Ves's significant birthday... when Dan became extremely unwell with meningitis, pretty much the day they arrived.

This BASTARD disease, which attacks the brain and spinal cord, meant Dan and Ves didn't see much of Greece, unless you count an Athens hospital ward. Thankfully, and with a lot of delicate negotiations, Dan was deemed well enough to fly home to Sydney with Ves in early July. After receiving further treatment back home, Dan was well enough to return to his job... until The Big Setback.

Last week, Dan was at work when he noticed his vision was blurred. He called Ves to pick him up, which she did... and took him straight to hospital for emergency treatment. Turns out, a rare complication of meningitis is blindness due to brain or optic nerve damage. The medicos reckon Dan was three hours away from total blindness, so it's very lucky Ves called it the way she did.

However, Dan now has permanent damage in one eye, and is still in hospital being treated to prevent total vision impairment. It's heavy. And yeah... while this gives Dan time to work on his new blues guitarist name (and rest and recover, of course), the reality is this: the latest medical episode has emptied Dan and Ves's emergency fund.

Dan's place of work has been awesomely supportive throughout his health issues; however, he's exhausted all paid leave entitlements. He and Ves could do with a helping hand so they don't have to stress out about rent, food, bills, transport and ongoing specialist treatment for Dan at this extremely worrying time.

So please, rock'n'roll community... if you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Dan and Ves or seeing Dan play, or listening to his music: dig deep. If deep means $5 of your hard-earned coin, we would honestly be so grateful. We know Dan and Ves will be, too, as they navigate their urgent cashflow situation and Dan's long road to recovery.
